Nakshi Kantha of our sweetest Bangladesh
Nakshi kantha or embroidered quilt is formed and used almost everywhere in Bangladesh. However, the nakshi kanthas of Rajshahi, Jessore, and Faridpur are most famous for stitchcraft and picturesque designs. Several layers of old cloth are put together to form these quilts. aside from getting used to form bedspreads and quilts, nakshi kantha work is additionally wont to make pillow cases and covers, prayer mats, seats for puja, small bags for keeping mirrors and combs, gilaf (covers) for books, covers for foods, and dastarkhan or dining mats.The designs were traditionally drawn blank check by women who worked leisurely in their spare time. at the present much nakshi kantha work is completed by ngos and handicraft organisations for commercial purposes. Traditionally, threads drawn from sari borders were used. at the present embroidery thread is employed or skeins of yarn.
